Pere Pruna

BIOGRAPHY

Pere Pruna (Barcelona, 1904–1977) was a Spanish painter endowed with such precocious talent that, at just seventeen years old, he managed to impress Pablo Picasso himself in Paris, who became his leading patron in the French art scene.

Unlike the abstract movements of his time, Pruna opted for a style rooted in the “Return to Order”, characterised by clean lines, soft tones and an immense classical elegance, which he delicately expressed in female portraits and poetic scenes.

His considerable international prestige was consolidated through his acclaimed costume and set designs for Diaghilev’s prestigious Ballets Russes, leaving behind an artistic legacy that stands out today for its serenity, lyrical beauty and technical refinement.
