Joaquim Terruella Matilla

BIOGRAPHY

Joaquim Terruella Matilla (Barcelona, 1891 – 1957) was a Catalan Post-Impressionist painter renowned for his mastery in capturing Mediterranean light and movement.

Trained alongside his uncle Segundo Matilla and strongly influenced by Santiago Rusiñol, he focused his work on oil paintings characterised by quick, loose and richly textured brushstrokes.

His main subjects were the coastal landscapes of Catalonia, harbour scenes and bullfighting scenes, works that brought him considerable commercial success in galleries in Barcelona, Madrid and Paris during the first half of the 20th century.
